Our HistoryThe Review and Herald Publishing Association is the oldest institution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. For over 150 years publishing has made an impact, not only in North America, but also throughout the world. In more recent years, the Review and Herald has developed a program where the young people can get involved in sharing the good news of Salvation in Jesus through the means of the printed page. The program is called the Light America Youth Challenge. It is in harmony with the counsel giving by God through Ellen White when she says: "When school closes, there will be opportunity for many to go out into the field as evangelistic canvassers. The faithful colporteur finds his way into many homes, where he leaves precious reading matter containing the truth for this time." —Ellen G. White, Colporteur MInistry, page 31.1 Opportunities to ShareLight America Youth Challenge gives young people the opportunity to go door to door spreading the message of Salvation. Besides gaining valuable knowledge in soul winning, the students are also able to earn money for their tuition through the donations they receive for literature. Many students find that in seeking to save the lost, they experience a closer relationship with their Savior as well. How the Programs workEach program has a "Head Leader" who oversees and organizes the daily schedule. Typically there are at least two leaders per program. Each leader is responsible for training and overseeing about 6 -7 student literature evangelists. Team spirit along with the group atmosphere makes for a powerful group of gospel workers. Our philosophy is that together with God we can accomplish anything. Each student at the end of the summer earns on average of $2,500 - $5,000 towards their schooling. This figure is often in addition to the matching scholarship that most of the Adventist schools offer. The Blessings of ServiceMany students throughout the years have been able to finish school as the result of the literature work. However, the greatest results of this ministry are still to come. "More than one thousand will soon be converted in one day, most of whom will trace their first convictions to the reading of our publications." —Ellen White, Colporteur Ministry, page 151. "The redeemed will meet and recognize those whose attention they have directed to the uplifted Saviour. What blessed converse they have with these souls, 'I was a sinner,' it will be said, 'without God and without hope in the world, and you came to me, and drew my attention to the precious Saviour as my only hope'. What rejoicing there will be as these redeemed ones meet and greet those who have had a burden in their behalf." —Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church Vol. 6, pp. 310-311. Come and join us in working for God! |
